Your first appointment is focused on getting to know you or your loved one, understanding concerns, and gathering information to help guide next steps.
For children, this may include discussing developmental history, reviewing concerns with parents or caregivers, observing communication skills, and engaging in activities or informal assessments to better understand strengths and areas of need.
For adults, the first appointment may include discussing current concerns, medical or communication history, evaluating speech, language, cognitive communication, or swallowing concerns, and identifying goals for therapy.
Our goal is to create a comfortable, supportive experience while developing a plan that meets each client’s individual needs.

Speech therapy sessions are typically 30–60 minutes in length depending on the goals, treatment plan, and insurance coverage.
During your evaluation or consultation, we will discuss recommended session length and frequency to create a plan that best supports your goals.

In-home and community-based services are available in the Newport News area on a limited basis, depending on clinical need, location, and clinician availability. Most services are provided in our clinic setting.
