Mindful Communication Group is seeking a compassionate and experienced mental health therapist to provide outpatient therapy to children and adolescents at our Newport News, Virginia office.

This 1099 independent-contractor opportunity is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working with young people and families and providing developmentally appropriate, individualized care for emotional, behavioral, social, family, and school-related concerns.

This role is primarily in-person at our Newport News office. Telehealth may also be incorporated based on client needs, clinical appropriateness, payer requirements, and clinician availability.

What You’ll Do

Provide individual mental health therapy to children and adolescents
Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
Use developmentally appropriate, evidence-based therapeutic interventions
Address concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD/executive functioning, emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, school-related concerns, family stress, and life transitions
Incorporate play-based interventions when appropriate to the client's age, needs, and treatment goals
Collaborate with parents and caregivers when clinically appropriate to support treatment progress
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Communicate and collaborate with MCG's clinical and administrative teams as appropriate
Coordinate with other professionals involved in a client's care when clinically appropriate and properly authorized

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or another qualifying behavioral-health discipline
Current Virginia professional license
Experience providing mental health services to children and/or adolescents
Ability to provide primarily in-person services at MCG's Newport News office
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions
Strong clinical documentation, communication, organization, and time-management skills
Ability to maintain professional liability coverage and complete MCG's required onboarding and credentialing processes

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with younger children
Training or clinical experience using play-based therapeutic interventions
Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential or formal play therapy training
Experience addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, and school-related challenges
Experience collaborating with parents and caregivers
